Passkeys and extra security
On this page · 5 sections
A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face or screen lock instead of waiting for an email. The emailed code always keeps working, so a passkey never locks you out.
Add a passkey#
After your first sign-in, My card offers "Skip the emailed code next time".
- Choose Add a passkey.
- Confirm with your device (fingerprint, face or screen lock).
- Next time, choose Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in screen.
If you chose Not now, you can still add one later. Adding a passkey asks you to sign in again first, for your safety.
Messages you may see#
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| This device already has a passkey for Cincio | Nothing. Use it from the sign-in screen. |
| You already have the most passkeys Cincio allows | Sign in on a device that already has one. |
| Too many tries | Wait the minutes shown, or use the emailed code. |
| Passkeys aren't available right now | Use the emailed code. |
Add a second step with an authenticator app#
In Settings, Security, you can turn on an authenticator app. After the emailed code, Cincio then asks for the six-digit code from the app.
- Choose Authenticator app, then Turn on.
- Open Cincio in your authenticator app, or scan the code with another device. You can also copy the setup key.
- Enter the six-digit code and choose Turn on.
- Save your ten recovery codes with Download codes. Each works once if you lose your authenticator app. We do not show them again.
You can make new recovery codes any time; the old ones stop working. Changing how you sign in asks for a code first.
See and end your devices#
In Settings, Security, Devices, you see where you are signed in. Choose Sign out on one device, Sign out other devices, or Sign out everywhere (this ends your current session too). We email you when a new device signs in; if it was not you, sign out everywhere and sign in again.
What we keep#
For a passkey we keep only its public key. Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored as one-way hashes. See the privacy policy.
